trend-alert-gladiator-sandals

Warm sunlight is shining on the beaches and trees are blossoming in the breeze. It’s time for toes to catch some sunlight and breathe fresh air after nesting in the thick, heavy winter boots for a long time. Walking by the seaside, shopping at malls or just going to work, a lady wearing a pair of gladiator sandals can effortlessly outshine the others.

As one of the best sandals introduced into the market, gladiator sandals are increasingly conquering the fashion industry with their interesting designs and elegant appearances, and more importantly, their comfort, and 2010 women’s sandals will continue the trend.

Gladiator sandals get their name for they follow the designs of the sandals worn by gladiators in the ancient Roman Empire. Generally, the gladiator sandals are leather flats in matte colors, such as black, brown and beige, and each of them has a T-Strap with multiple straps going across the foot. However, gladiator sandals designers further develop the design and a plurality of variants are now available in the market. There are gladiator sandals in shiny metallic colors, such as gold and silver, as well as in matte colors but adorned with gems, beads or studs which make them “pop”; there are gladiator sandals with beautiful knots and adjustable straps; there are gladiator sandals with heels, but the heels do not compromise the comfort at all.

Nowadays, when it comes to shoes, ladies seek for not only fashion, but also comfort. Naturally, gladiator sandals become the right choice for them. This season a pair of gladiator sandals will be a perfect complement to a women’s wardrobe!

Massive Earthquake Hit Chile, Help Needed

Chile
More than 802 people have been killed to date in Chile earthquake which happened early on February 27. This 8.8 magnitude quake ranks as the fifth-largest on world record. International aid has arrived in the most devastated areas on Tuesday. The following organizations, listed by GuideStar, are accepting donations to help with relief efforts in Chile:
? Red Cross
? Doctors Without Borders
? Habitat for Humanity
? Mobile Giving Foundation
? World Vision International

Background: Lying along the notorious “ring of fire” on Pacific coasts, Chile has endured many earthquakes, among which this one is the biggest in its last 50 years. The most powerful ever recorded in its history is a 9.5 quake in 1960. Chileans have applied the hard lessons learned from those earthquakes in its building. The standards of building codes for new structures were adopted in 1996 which have helped many modern high buildings withstand this tremendous shaking. Though this quake is more powerful than the 7.0 magnitude Haiti quake on Jan. 12, 2010, Chile appears to have suffered less destruction thanks to its strict building codes since 1996, according to Wall Street Journal. However, water and medical supplies are getting severely scarce in those badly hit areas.

Nintendo Co., Ltd this time announced it would launch the DSi XL version this year in Europe on March 5th, in Australia on March 15th, and in North America on March 28th. This XL guy is a bigger-screen version of its popular portable game device DSi LL. 3D-glasses-turn-movies-into-realities

3D technology is nothing new, but it catches more eyes since Avatar thrills the world with its fantastic motion pictures. After experiencing the wondrous 3D effect, 3D lovers are not content with the one-time or two-time experience with the thrilling 3D Avatar in the movie theaters. They want more such 3D visual experience, not in the cinemas, but at home with their own display devices. To realize stereoscopic viewing at home, 3D addicts need to prepare the right 3D glasses, which can not only bring them clear 3D effects, but also protect their eyes.

Polarized 3D Glasses
A pair of polarized glasses has two polarizing lenses, and the polarization directions of both lenses are vertical to each other. This make it possible that the left eye sees pictures projected from the left projector and the right eye sees pictures projected from the right projector. Presently, polarized glasses are the most common solution to 3D motion pictures in movie theaters. Since the 3D polarization technology is difficult to realize at home, 3D enthusiasts who want to enjoy 3D effects at home are not advised to buy this kind of glasses. But for movie theaters, polarized glasses are the best choice.

Color Filter 3D Glasses
By now, color filter glasses may be the most suitable 3D glasses to be used at home. Both lenses of the color filter glasses have respective different color filters in front of them. As a result, the left eye can only see a few colors while the right eye can see the other colors. The common color combinations of color filter glasses are red + green and red + blue. The advantages are that 3D materials can be stored to any color video media and viewed with normal display devices as long as the right color filter 3D glasses are worn. Do remember that eyes will feel fatigue after long-time viewing, so it is better to take off the glasses and have a rest after viewing for a period.

Now on DHgate.com, most 3D glasses offered by our sellers are Color Filter 3D Glasses. If you want to learn the details, click to view Color Filter 3D Glasses available on our website.

Good Businesses Make Good Business Choices

Good businesses make good business choices, that’s what allows them to succeed.

We all like choice, variety, in fact, isn’t that the spice of life? However, with this comes the availability of one choice to be more or less worthwhile than another.

For me, in China, this availability opens up a world of opportunity to source exactly what I need and allows me to negotiate on far more areas that were indeed possible in traditional markets.

Where I talk with more suppliers and discuss the different aspects of my requirement, my initial list of suppliers can be whittled down to a shortlist of whom I feel have been the most helpful, communicative, experienced and of course, can handle my order.

When businesses bring this understanding to the Chinese marketplace they can truly begin to take advantage of what exactly Chinese manufacture is about and maximize their purchasing power (read) profits, through strategic and trusted supplier relationships.

And with these new powerful resources lie the advantage, in that by securing sets of trade partners of which you have prior experience with, you can transfer the benefits of these business relationships to your customers.

This may seem complicated, but in this area, it’s not at all different from your traditional means of acquiring new products.

Simply by communicating with the customer regarding your requirements, looking at references and prior trading history you place a single small order initially for an evaluation.

Happy? Discuss further and begin to build your supplier relationships. Through good business practices, your business is likewise rewarded.

That’s simply the success I talk of.

Fashion fans get ready, Boutique, Jaeger’s younger, quirkier line, is opening a pop-up store in London’s Foubert Place in the coming weeks to showcase its autumn/winter collection alongside a host of other labels.

The shop will feature dresses, jackets, signature separates and the like from Boutique’s latest collection as well as gifts and accessories from Rough Trade, Les Nereides, Essi Sunglasses, Assouline Books and Stenoflex Cameras to try and tempt the younger shopper into its midst. But for hardcore Jaeger fans, there’ll also be key pieces from the mainline collection sprinkled throughout, too.

“The opening of our Boutique by Jaeger pop-up shop in the heart of the West End introduces the Jaeger brand to a new, younger shopper, while providing a unique shopping experience for the existing Jaeger customer,” Belinda Earl, the label’s ceo, tells Vogue UK. “I am absolutely delighted to welcome the Boutique by Jaeger girls into the Jaeger fold.”

And what a fold it is. So we hear, the temporary space has been decked out with a suitably stylish interior – there’s bespoke wallpaper, for starters, exclusively designed by illustrator Julie Verhoeven – to make it a shopping haven and a must-vist.

It’s set to open officially on Saturday 7th August at Foubert’s Place (just off Carnaby Street), London. See you there.

Giorgio Armani launches Frames of Life

If you’re an 80s fan, and you also happen to be a glasses wearer, you’re in luck. Next week, Giorgio Armani is launching its Frames of Life line – a collection of spectacles inspired by the brand’s original designs three decades ago.

Everyone loves a classic vintage resurrection – need we remind you of YSL? – and let’s not forget fashion’s current love affair with geeky glasses, so the timeliness of Giorgio Armani’s Frames of Life is pretty well-placed, if you ask us.

The traditional production methods of the 80s have been given a little 21st century jig to create the new frames, which will comprise of one style for women and one for men – both simple rounded shapes, according to the Daily – each in several colour options. But bad luck if you’re hoping for sunglasses, this is strictly optical only.

As with all collections there’ll be a suitably stylish launch to follow, and this one’s taking place in New York next week. There’s set to be a retrospective exhibition where style hunters can take a peek at the old archives as well as a cocktail party at Armani’s Fifth Avenue flagship store, after which the collection will be go on sale officially to the public.

Our better senses tell us snap these up – we have a feeling they’ll be quite sought-after once they’re gone.

Vain Glorious | Travel With Dr. Brandt

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:07 am

Dr. Brandt

Who: Dr. Frederic Brandt

What: Time Arrest to Go, a travel-size collection of skin care from Dr. Frederic Brandt’s latest line.

Why bother: Because no first-class amenity kit or swank hotel bathroom will ever offer you eye serum. And there’s essentially no time you need it more than when traveling through time zones on arid airplanes. “The food they serve on planes is so full of carbohydrates, starches and sugars,” says Brandt. “Those nuts are roasted in oil and salt. If you’re going to eat nuts, eat raw nuts!” Aside from avoiding salt and eschewing adult beverages, the good doctor’s new collection of T.S.A.-friendly products — which includes a thick moisturizer, neck cream, cleanser and packets of best sellers like Time Arrest Eye Serum, Laser Tight and Collagen Booster —promises to keep your face infinitely fresher than that fruit cocktail.

How it works: According to Brandt, the cleanser removes makeup while rehydrating skin, thanks to phyto-esters, which replace natural lipids, as well as vitamin E, sunflower oil and glycerin, which fight free radicals and plump the skin. “The glycerin is similar to hyaluronic acid, which keeps the humidity high in the skin,” he says. “It’ll even drag water into the skin from the atmosphere.” As with all the products in the Time Arrest line, “the main technology is this platinum peptide delivery system, which allows us to deliver the peptide deeper into skin and target where it’s going,” Brandt continues. “We call it the G.P.S. system.”

How much: $75, at drbrandtskincare.com.

DESCRIPTIONAnthony CotsifasThe west side of Sara Rotman’s house.

View slide show >>

An architect and client’s shared vision produces a house that’s both logical and lyrical — and energy-efficient.

At first glance, they would appear to be unlikely collaborators. David Mann, the founder of the New York practice MR Architecture + Décor — which designs high-end residences, and retail spaces for clients like Pierre Hardy (a New York store that will be its first in the United States), and the design showroom SUITE New York — is a soft-spoken architect with a less-is-more approach and a closet full of black and navy Prada suits. Sara Rotman, whose company, MODCo Creative Inc., has designed identities, logos and textiles for companies from Tory Burch and Carolina Herrera to Pour La Victoire and Kelsi Dagger, plays polo, owns a Rottweiler named Boogie and favors tattoos, skinny jeans and very high heels. When Mann answers a question in the affirmative, his response is a quiet “Sure.” Rotman’s is an emphatic “Hell, yes!” And the trait that they do share, which is that they are extremely opinionated on matters aesthetic, doesn’t always make for an easy collaboration.

But the two also shared something that transcended their outward differences. Rotman really wanted to build a weekend house — a small, Modernist house. “I didn’t want to do the Kaufman house again,” she explained, referring to the famous Palm Springs dwelling that was designed in 1946 by Richard Neutra, “but I wanted something Modernist in feeling, and in harmony with the land.” And Mann, as it happened, had been thinking about just such a house for several years. He even designed one for himself, to be built in the California desert. He still hasn’t built the house, but Rotman saw the design in his portfolio several years ago when she was interviewing architects for the Tory Burch store in NoLIta. Mann got the store commission, and Rotman eventually asked him to design her house. For Rotman, discovering that “we’re both true Modernists” sealed the deal.

Her property in upstate New York, with its sweeping view of the Berkshires, offered the perfect spot for a house that would make her feel “like I was outside all the time.” Initially, Mann hoped to site the house so that it looked west, toward the Catskills — an even more spectacular view. But it involved cutting down too many trees, and Rotman argued that the Berkshire view would be just as nice; she could wake up to the sunrise. Mann came around to his client’s point of view, calling her “site savvy.” But architect and client agreed from the start on the design of the house, a 2,400-square-foot, bar-shaped building clad in red cedar, with all rooms facing the view. The open living-dining-kitchen area — the more public space — acts as a buffer between the home office and guest room near the entry and the master bedroom at the far end of the house. (Closets lining the hallway that connects the spaces provide ample storage.) Nine-foot ceilings give the interior a graciousness that belies its small size, and the limited palette of materials — concrete for the floors, wood for the ceilings, dry-stacked local stone for the fireplace wall and Corian for the cabinets — makes the rooms feel even more spacious. Radiant heat eliminates the need for radiators, or “wall acne,” as Mann called them, although there is also a forced-air system for cold winter days.

The collaboration between architect and client extended to the decoration of the house as well. Mann chose a set of vintage wood chairs by Paul McCobb for the dining table; Rotman, who loves color (see her Loquita line of scarves at loquitanyc.com), suggested painting them bright red. Mann thought an antler chandelier would be a nice reference to the local wildlife; Rotman thought gilding the chandelier would make it wilder still. Cowhide upholstery continues the rustic theme, although Mann added what he called “a ‘Green Acres’ touch” (Eva Gabor, not Eddie Albert) when he found a hand-painted wallpaper from De Gournay for the guest bathroom.

Still, this house isn’t just another pretty facade. It’s energy-efficient, too, using both geothermal power and an array of solar panels that Mann cleverly concealed behind the roof parapet. These features, and the fact that the house is used mainly on weekends, allow it to run mostly off the power grid. “We always bring up the energy issue,” explained Mann, whose office designed a LEED Platinum-designated store for Origins in Denver. “My house in the desert was going to be solar.”

In the end, Mann said of Rotman, “As collaborators, we were seamless.” Rotman, who called their working relationship one of “violent agreement,” obviously loves her house. “I don’t need art on the walls,” she said. “I have Nature TV. I watch storms and hawks, and a snowy owl hunting.” To her, the house feels “glamorous, yet invisible.” You can’t argue with that.
